Snapper (SP-2714)—a wooden-hulled fishing boat propelled by a gasoline engine—was built in 1906 by T. E. Tull at Pocomoke City, Md., was purchased by the Navy at Norfolk on 14 September 1918 from W. S. Webber of that city; and was commissioned there on 6 October 1918.

Snapper was assigned to the 6th Naval District and served on section patrol in the Hampton Roads/Virginia capes area through the end of World War I. She was sold on 11 September 1919 to the Neptune Line of New York City.
