Margaret Scott was purchased 30 November 1861
New Bedford, Mass., to be sunk as part of the "Stone Fleet," craft used to try to block various southern ports. Sailing to Port Royal Harbor, the vessels were load, with stone and sunk in channels leading to the ports Georgia and the Carolinas. Margaret Scott was sunk January 1862 in Charleston's Maffitt Channel.
