"PORSCHE" (Dr. Ing. h. c. Ferry Porsche AG), German automobile company. Headquarters is located in Stuttgart.
The company was founded by the famous designer Ferdinand Porsche Sr. as a design-bureau in Germany in 1931. A Type 22 race car was designed for the Auto-Union company in 1936. After the successful racing "Auto-Union" the first variants of the future "people's car" for all time — the famous "Beetle" Volkswagen was born, which also had another name “Type 60”.
In 1937, the "Third Reich" needed a racing car to participate and, of course, to win the Berlin-Rome marathon, scheduled for September 1939. That's when the Porsche project was supported by the National Sports Committee. The work boiled up.
By this event on the same Beetle base, more precisely KdF (name up to 1945), were built three prototypes of "Porsche" Type-60K-10 with forced 50-horsepower engine (instead of standard 24 hp). But the publication of this model was interrupted by the war.
The war years were given to fulfillment of state orders - the production of staff cars, amphibious vehicles, tanks and self-propelled guns.
In postwar Germany, in 1948, the company launched its first car under the name "Porsche" - a small sports car "Porsche 356" with a forced Volkswagen engine and streamlined coupe.
Not having had time to make its first steps, the car was able to win the race already a week after its "birth. Production cars of the Porsche 356 were already rear-engined. "The 356" was produced until 1965 and served as the basis for the Carrera ("Carrera") model.
Given the merits and good results shown in 1951, the model "356", Ferri tried to build a purely sports car. It became in 1953 the Porsche 550 Spyder.
It was this car that repeatedly won one victory after another. Due to its participation (and victory) in the rally Carrera Panamericana in Mexico in 1953, the custom to call the high-speed company models by this name went. By 1954, the first Spyder with a straight windshield and a soft top appeared.
The first Porsche Carrera was presented in 1955. In addition, this modification received a power plant, which was fully developed by Porsche specialists. The same "heart" was transplanted to the model 550. After that the laurels have fallen on the creators of the truck.
The year 1956 brought two events at once: there was an updated version of the "356" - the model "356A"; in the sports lineup appeared a more "quiet" modification "550A".
For about 15 years, the Porsche 356 was one of the most prestigious sports cars in the world. However, over time, it also became less and less relevant to modern requirements. Something absolutely new was needed, according to the time. The next masterpiece of Ferdinand Porsche, the world famous Porsche 911, turned out to be this car.
Ferri's son, Ferdinand Alexander, took part in the creation of this car. The new car was first shown to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963.
In the world of sports, too, a worthy substitute took place. The successor of the "RS Spyder" and "356 GS Carrera" models was the "904 GTS", which had the features of a racing AWC car. These features found their continuation in the next model - "906", created in 1966.
In turn, it became the ancestor of a large series of cars, which have achieved in the late 60's many successes in the prototype competition (models "907", "908" and "917") and are noted for their exceptional reliability and good style.
Throughout the decade, the class of prototypes added new successful models: "936", "956" and "962", which repeatedly collected laurels in the races "24 Hours of Le Mans", "959th" reigned in the marathon "Paris-Dakar".
In order to consolidate its post-crisis position in the sports car market and in the class of "low-cost" cars, Porsche in 1996, introduced a completely new type of automobile - the model "Boxster". The model has a soft (automatically folding) top. A hardtop version is also available upon request. Finally, there is a "cheap" competitor to the great 911.
A series of new products was temporarily interrupted in 2005, after the premiere of the new Boxster and coupe based on the Cayman (officially Porsche considers it an independent machine). In addition to updates and additions to the lineup of existing cars, the main efforts of the company since then have actually focused on one goal - preparing for the release of a 4-door Panamera model, which was officially unveiled in April 2009 at the Shanghai Motor Show. It is still considered one of the most versatile models for an urban environment. Where ever you go in the world there are places to rent a Porsche such as Porsche Panamera in Dubai or Diplomat Exotic Rentals in Las Vegas you feel the luxury by renting a Porsche.
Porsche is the most profitable car company in the world (in terms of profit per car sold). In 2010, Porsche cars were recognized as the most reliable in the world. The traditional color of Porsche cars is silver.
