2006 NATO Takes the Offensive.
In 2006 NATO forces took the offensive against the Taliban. British led forces replaced American forces in Southern Afghanistan. In May the British led forces launched Operation Mountain Thrust. In July Canadian troops launched Operation Medusa. These were but a few of the many operations launched by NATO, almost all of which were tactically successful but none had any lasting strategic impact.
