2014 NATO Combat Role Ends.

2014 was a year filled with bombing attacks on Afghan and NATO personnel. In one attack on a restaurant in Kabul that was frequented by UN personnel, 21 people were killed. In August a soldier wearing the uniform of the Afghanistan Army opened fire on a group of foreign troops killing US General Harold Greene. US troops were slowly being withdrawn in some cases being replaced by paid contractors. On December 28, 2014, NATO officially ended combat operations.
