Senator Elizabeth Warren announced that she was officially running for the Democratic nomination for President. Earlier she had announced she was establishing an exploratory committee.

Senator Cory Booker announced that he would seek the Democratic nomination for Presdient. Booker had been a US Senator from New Jersey since being elected in 2012. Before that he was Mayor of Newark.

California Senator Kamela Harris has announced that she is running for the Democratic nomination for President in 2020. Before being elected to the Senate in 2016 Harris had been California State Attorney General form 2011 to 2017 and San Francisco District Attorney from 2004 to 2010.

New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced that she had formed a 2020 exploratory campaign,Gillibrand who replaced Senator Clinton as New York Senator. Gillibrand has been known for her support for women candidates throughout the US.

 

January 12, 2019

Former housing secretary and former mayor of San Antonio Julian Castro has announced that he is running for the Democratic nomination for the Presidency. Castro is 44 and at 26 was the youngest mayor ever of San Antonio.

 

January 11, 2019

Representative Tulsi Gabbard has announced that she will seek the Democratic Nomination for the Presidency. Gabbard was first elected to the House from Hawaii in 2012. Ten years earlier she had been the youngest person ever elected to the Hawaii State Legislature. Gabbard brings some unique baggage to the race, including defending President Assad of Syria from accusations of killing his own people.

Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts becomes the first major candidate to announce the creation of an exploratory committee formally. She made it clear that she is throwing her hat into the ring and running for the Democratic nomination for President.
