Geography

Srivijaya was a maritime city state on the island of Sumatra. It accumulated its wealth from trading and exacting a toll from every ship that passed throuh its waters. In 1025 the state suffered a stunning defeat when a rival Indian trading rival launched a large scale attack on it. the rival captured the king and the capital of the empire, before being forced to withdraw. The Srivijaya were never able to recover however.
