Daily Life Egypt

The Egyptian society was organized simply.  The King was highest level surrounded by the nobles and priests.  This ruling class controlled the government and managed its own lands. 

The next groups were merchants and artisans.  They engaged in trade up and down the Nile.  Other merchants were engaged in international trade.  The Egyptian artisans were engaged in producing a wide range of goods. They included tools, boxes and linen clothing.

The largest number of Egyptians worked the land.  In early Egyptian history there were farmers who owned their own land, by the end of the Old Kingdom however nearly all the farmers were serfs. They paid taxes to the king and nobles, and were able to keep whatever was left.
