Art in China

 

The major artistic accomplishment of the Shang period in China was the creation of bronze ritual vessels.  The Chinese called these guang.  They were created to reflect images of animals.  During the Zhou period Chinese artist produced elaborate items in jade, bronze and lacquer to adorn the feudal court. During the Han period The Chinese produced a series of stone relief, many done in family shrines.

During the Sui Dynasty the Chinese created a series of images of Buddha, both large small. 

The Tang Dynasty is known for the extensive hand painted scrolls.  The scrolls often told stories of Chinese history.

The Song period was a period of Chinese painting.  China produced two well-known painters during this period- Ma Yuan and Xia Guy.  Some of the most renowned art were landscapes.  The Songs were also known for the stoneware vases.
