Mary Ludwig Hays, a Hero
At the battle of Monmouth, NJ, Mary Ludwig Hays carried water to the American troops. She was nicknamed "Molly Pitcher." When her husband was wounded she took his place, and became a Revolutionary hero, earning herself a state pension.
