Confederate Camps

Confederate camps had smaller rations and fewer luxuries than Union camps. Many fought without shoes, unless they managed to take the shoes off a dead or dying Union soldier. In addition to shoes, Confederate troops often had to scavenge for weapons and ammunition. Many Confederate soldiers had to sleep in the open, without a tent, covered only with a blanket. Their uniforms, Gray for the Confederacy, were usually made at home, and did not fare well under the conditions in which the soldiers lived.
