The Early Years

Donald Trump was born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York. His mother was from Scotland, and his father, a real estate developer, was born in New York to German immigrant parents. Trump attended a local elementary school but later went to the New York Military Academy for the end of middle school and high school. He studied at Fordham University for two years before transferring to the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he focused on real estate.

After graduating, Trump worked at his father's real estate company, Elizabeth Trump & Son, which he later renamed the Trump Organization. His first major success came in 1978 when he redeveloped the Commodore Hotel in New York into the Grand Hyatt. In 1983, he built Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue, and in 1984, he opened Harrah's Trump Plaza in New Jersey. However, many of his Atlantic City casinos eventually declared bankruptcy. Over time, Trump shifted his business model to licensing his name for branding purposes rather than directly developing properties. He also ventured into entertainment, becoming the owner of the Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA pageants from 1995 to 2015. Trump founded Trump University, a for-profit school, but settled a lawsuit for $25 million with students who claimed they were defrauded. In 2003, Trump became the executive producer and star of the popular TV show *The Apprentice*.

Though Trump had considered running for president in 1988, 2004, and 2012, he officially announced his candidacy on June 16, 2015. Initially, he was not expected to secure the Republican nomination against 17 other candidates, but he defied the odds and won. On January 20, 2017, Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States.

Accomplishments in Office

The first three years of Donald Trump's presidency have been tumultuous. Although Trump faced no major international crisis, his immediate staff and cabinet officials had a higher turn-over rate than any modern President. One of his first acts as President was resigning from the trade deal negotiated called the Trans-Pacific Partnership, designed to counter China. Trump made major changes in border enforcement making it harder to apply for refugee status and forcing those coming through the Southern border to wait on the Mexican side.

The Trump administration successfully increased the intensity of the attacks on ISIS, bringing an end to territorial holdings. President Trump successfully appointed two conservative judges to the Supreme Court as well as an unprecedented number of lower court judges. Trump also proposed and passed a large tax cut. That tax cut significantly reduced the tax burden on large corporations and the most wealthy while only reducing the burden on the middle class. The result has been a ballooning Federal deficit.

During the first two years of the Presidency, an investigation into the involvement of the Trump campaign with the Russian interference of the 2016 elections took place under the auspices of independent counsel Robert Mueller. Mueller did not find enough evidence to charge a conspiracy. He did find evidence of a cover-up but stated that a sitting President could not be charged.

Immediately after the Mueller report was released and Robert Mueller testified before Congress, Trump allegedly pressured the government of Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Biden and his son, at the time the leading Democratic candidate to run against him in 2020. He did so by withholding aid. When a whistleblower reported the acts the Congress began investigating and that led to President Trump being impeached, but was not removed from office. After losing to Joe Biden for reelection, Trump hatched several schemes to stay in power, including an attempt to stop Vice President Pence from certifying the election.
