Janos Kadar

Kadar was born May 26 1912 Fiume Austria Hungary. He was a member of the Hungarian underground during World War II. After the war, he was first party secretary and one of the leading members of the regime. In 1950, while serving as Secretary of the Interior he was arrested for being a "Titoist," and was rehabilitated in 1954. When the Hungarian revolt broke out he was one of the leading anti-Stalinist. However, when Soviet troops marched in, he set up a puppet regime. He remained the Hungarian leader until 1988.
