Andrew Browne Cunningham was born on January 7, 1883 in Rathmins Ireland . He entered the British Navy in 1898. During World War I, he commanded a destroyer; and during the Second World War, he commanded British naval forces in the Mediterranean. He defeated the Italian Navy at Taranto and commanded the Allied naval forces for the invasion of North Africa, Sicily and Italy.
