Mother Teresa otherwise known as Saint Teresa of Calcutta was born on August 26, 1910 in Skopje Macedonia. She left home at the age of 18 to join the Sisters of Lereto in Ireland. She moved to India to begin missionary work in1929 at the age of 19.
In her over 60 years of service to humanity, Mother Teresa brought world-wide attention to her work with the poor and dying in India. She established a new religious order, The Missionaries of Charity, whose members now number in the hundreds; working tirelessly to create hospitals, schools and orphanages in many countries.
Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Prize for peace in 1979. Upon her death in 1997, it was speculated that she would be elevated to sainthood in the Roman Catholic Church. That sainthood was bestowed on September 4th 2016
