Controversial writer Henry Miller was born in New York in 1890. He moved to Paris in 1930 where he wrote a sexually explicit autobiographic novel, entitled Tropic of Capricorn. The novel was banned from sale in the United States for many years. Considered an iconoclast, Miller continued to publish autobiographical novels throughout his life. Miller lived in California from 1949 until his death in 1980.
