Editor and playwright Clare Booth Luce was born in 1903 in New York City. She became the editor of Vanity Fair Magazine in 1933 and then went on to write a number of hit plays including The Women.
She served as a US Congressman from 1943-47 and as Ambassador to Italy from 1953-57. She was married to media mogul and Time magazine-founder Henry Luce.
