President Obama taped interviews with Brian Williams, Erica Hill and Diane Sawyer.
Directly afterward, Obama dropped by the New York City Science and Engineering Fair which was being held at the Natural History Museum's
He was accompanied on a tour of the research projects by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Jeanette Kim, Director of the NYC Science and Engineering Fair.
"I've been traveling around the country talking about how America can win the future... Whenever I get a chance to go to a science fair, I go," Obama said.
"I want you to know that you are the key to our success," Obama told
"You're going to be able to find a job because there's going to be a great advantage for the skills you're learning."
So you should all be extraordinarily proud of the work you're doing," Obama said.
He told them that he doesn't want to speak long because he's going to walk around and see the projects. But he added "If I'm nodding, you should just assume that everything you said is going completely over my head... Because you are all much smarter than me."
The first student had built a bamboo bike and then tested its ability to withstand stress for his project.
"I've been riding it to school for the last two years," the Bronx Science High School Senior.
"What, they wouldn't let you bring an actual bike?" POTUS joked.
At the third exhibit Obama became deeply engrossed in conversation with a student who developed a project based on active noise cancellation in human-robot speech interaction.
She explained her project by posing a series of hypothetical questions about what POTUS knew about sound and human speech. After the exchange, POTUS said with a chuckle "I'm not worried about you actually going to college. I promise, you'll be fine."
