The day began with a reception that the President and Mrs Obama held in honor of Justice Sonia Sotomayor and her family.

The President then received his daily briefings and met with his senior advisors.

In the afternoon the President and the First Lady hosted the Medal of Freedom ceremony. The following people received the awards:
