Clinton
In 1831 the Dewitt Clinton became the first train to run in New York State. The train ran on the Mohawk and Hudson line that went on to be part of the New York Central Railroad.
The DeWitt Clinton locomotive was built at the West Point Foundry in Cold Spring, NY. It was the third locomotive built in the United States. The locomotive was named after the Governor of New York, who had built the Erie Canal. On the 9th day of August 1831, it made its first run from Albany, New York, to Schenectady, New York. It was the first railroad run in New York. It was part of the Mohawk and Hudson Railroad. The railroad became part of the New York Central System in 1853.
